Advancing Social and Environmental Equity through Plastics Research: Education, Innovation, and Inclusion (ASPIRE)

The USM project team secured a grant of $4 million from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) as part of the foundation’s Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) program.

The ASPIRE project explores environmental health issues impacting coastal populations, including the impact of microplastic exposure on human health. Environmental testing will be conducted to determine environmental contamination of microplastics and a community engagement approach will be utilized to involve underserved communities in the examination of human health impacts.

Funding Agency: U.S. National Science Foundation.

Investigators and Collaborative Partners
Austen Anderson, Jennifer L. Lemacks, Yang Ge, Zhe Qiang
